THE HOME WATCH INDUSTRY

Home Watch is a term for people who own more than one home or who travel, and have a need for their vacant or unoccupied home to be watched when they're away. As an industry it started in states such as Florida, Arizona, and California in the late 2000s, for people owning seasonal homes. Home Watchers could look after their homes during the off-season. The industry has steadily grown as more partial year residents became aware of Home Watch and learned to vet a business before handing over the keys to their vacant or unoccupied home.

Home Watch is a relatively new concept in Minnesota. In this state, our "off" season is the winter, when "snowbirds" and people traveling for extended periods of time escape to warmer climates. But, all predictions are that home watch services will be a growing industry before long.
